How to Adopt

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTING A BEAGLE

  •  A loving family that will devote time, energy, patience and especially love to train and care for the beagle.
  •  A yard with at least a 4-foot high fence. Some beagles require a higher fence, because they are jumpers. An unseen or electric fence is unacceptable as most beagles will run through it.
  •  Outside access for the dog during the day. This can be accomplished by someone being home during all or part of the day, having access to a dog door, or having someone available to let the dog out.
  •  A home check by a CBR volunteer prior to the adoption. An appointment is made for the visit.
  •  Dogs less than two years of age will not be placed in a home with children under six years old. However, a dog older than two years can be placed with young children. A young beagle will jump on a child and can knock the child over, will take food or toys from a child, will pull the child’s clothing or hair or will nip the child. A young dog treats a young child like another puppy.
  •  Complete an adoption application form.

Meeting all of these requirements does not necessarily guarantee that you’ll be able to adopt a CBR Beagle.

The adoption donation also includes:

  •  Rescue tag with the CBR rescue phone number.

  •  Spaying or neutering if required.

  •  All required vaccinations up-to-date.

The Beagle is carefully matched to his or her new family. However, if the adoption does not work out within 14 days, CBR will take the dog back and refund the donation. The family is asked to keep the dog until a new placement can be found. Support is always available for the new family.
